Home Renovation: My decorating wish list

Sort of... we are a few weeks out from me actually be able to decorate but it's not to early to start putting my wish list together (and ordering a few items of course)!

Since I explained to you how I sold all of our things, it's only natural that I show you what sorts of things I would like to fill our home back up with! :)  My vision for each room is starting to take shape, one item at a time.  Here are a few things I have my eye on right now.  I really want to fill our home with warmth, color, comfort, and maybe a little bit of the unexpected- like something shiny or the stag print!

If you'd like to see more items I'd love to have in my house, check out my Home Renovation 2014 Pinterest Board.

Oddly enough, I'm a little stressed about decorating my own house.  So often I quickly have a vision for other homes I decorate through my e-design business but struggle with me own. I'm trying to take it easy and remember that I don't have to have it done all at once, it can happen over time! :)

Turn on the Twinkle - A Holiday Design Board

I am shocking myself by the fact that I am already thinking about Christmas and decorating for the holidays!  This year I found my decorating inspiration from this Glitzy Greeting card by Tiny Prints.  I love the combination of gold and jewel tones and by adding just a few holiday decorations, a room can easily be transformed into a beautiful space to live and entertain guests during the holidays!

How about this for a holiday space?!

Master Bedroom Update

Believe it or not, I have not done anything (drastic) to our master bedroom since I moved here 2+ years ago! I know, it doesn't sound like a big deal but if you know me, you know I can't just leave things they way there.  I get bored often. And, to be honest, I really like our master bedroom the way it is.

But then, I found a duvet from Pottery Barn that was screaming my name.  Which led to making some minor updates to our master bedroom.

Here is a look at my master plan!

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

I don't plan to change the wall color - I absolutely love Sherwin Williams Repose Gray! It is  a bright color that reflect so much natural light in our south-facing bedroom.

The duvet from Pottery Barn is called the Pearson Snowflake Duvet.  The word 'snowflake' has kind of been tricking my mind into thinking this duvet is winter-only. But I don't think it's that winter-y and with a throw pillow covered in this Kate Spain fabric, I think I will love it!

I also have a few 8x10 wedding photos on the way from Shutterfly that I'll add to the space.

Hopefully I'll have this space pulled together next weekend and then you'll see the after!

Client Design - Rebeka's Living Room

I recently had the opportunity to work with Rebeka, who purchased a design board from me through a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) silent auction fundraiser that took place at our office! Rebeka was definitely fun to work with since she was so engaged in the process!

Her design style is a rustic, country style filled with blues and grays mixed with metals and modern accent pieces!  She and her husband also just bought new couches, like the one in the design board, so this was a perfect opportunity to spruce up the rest of the space! :)

I will have another fundraiser design coming up for breast cancer research - stay tuned!

Out of respect for the clients I work with, I keep their source lists private.  If you are interested in a custom mood board, click here for details!

Mid Century Modern

One of my favorite TV shows lately is Vegas on CBS. I love the characters, the actors, the story lines and I really love the mid century modern inspired set. If there was an actual Savoy hotel, like the one in this TV series, I would seriously stay there. I definitely did not experience the 1960's but this show kinda makes me want to go back to that era, in Las Vegas of course! :)  Unfortunately I can't find any pictures of the hotel set so you'll have to take my word for it or watch the show - Friday Nights at 8:00pm!

Since this show has sparked my love for Mid-Century modern decor, I pulled together this design board. I love the bold colors and clean lines.

Seating Area Design Board + Source List

I'm spending more and more time creating design boards lately!  I often come across a piece of furniture, pillow, accessory, or in the case a rug, that inspires me and I come up with a design board.  This is a look at a causal seating area I pulled together after I found myself inspired by an inexpensive rug from Urban Outfitters.

Zig Zag Rug | Urban Outfitters
Gold A-Line Floor Lamp | Shades of Light
Yellow Pouf | Lulu and Georgia
Traders Chest | Anthropologie
Rocking Bird | West Elm
Side Table | West Elm
Vases | West Elm

Client Update - Living Room Design

I am really having a lot of fun working with people to decorate their spaces.  I recently helped my friend, Kelli Jo, to decorate and accessorize her living room.  It wasn't long ago that they re-painted the interior of their house and installed new carpet and baseboard but after all of the updates they didn't hang anything back on the walls.  I say how wouldn't be excited about adding a few new things so here is a look at the design board I pulled together for their living room.

Since their space was well updated, it didn't take much to accessorize by adding a few warm colors to contrast their cool walls, create the illusion of a bigger space by adding a mirror and finding a few baskets to store toys for their adorable son!  Kelli Jo is also a photographer to we found a floating shelf to hang above the tv to display some of her photography.  By hanging a floating shelf, it is easy to change the accessories regularly!

If you, or someone you know, is interested in help designing their space send me an email (designyourdwellingblog (at) gmail.com) and check out my Design Services page.

Enjoy your Tuesday... I am in an all-day meeting tomorrow but I'm sure I'll be active on Twitter (@beth_dydblog) and Facebook!  (Shhhhh.... don't tell!)

Design Board + Source List

Last week I got the Pottery Barn and West Elm catalogs in the mail and stopped at Target.  I found myself inspired by so many decor items that I'm loving right now.  Before I forgot all about them, I decided to pull together a design board with some of my favorites.  Plus, I kind of have a vision of a living room makeover in late 2013 or early 2014 (after our wedding.)

This is a design board I put together for my own interest so I am more than happy to share the item sources with you.  Hopefully you will find something you like and will fit perfect in your space!

Here ya go!  All items are hyper-linked to their source! Enjoy!

I found the yellow pillow and orange pillow during my shopping trip to Target.  They are so fresh and bright, plus I love the designs.  The chevron pillow is one I've been admiring on etsy and lately I am getting into deer silhouettes so this pillow was a must for this design.

The scribble curtains caught my eye in the West Elm catalog.  Plus they are so affordable!

I've used this charcoal Wyatt sectional from World Market in a few designs.  It's smaller than your average sectional and such a great neutral.

I love neutral furniture because it's so easy to change accessories but I don't love neutral furniture when each piece matches perfectly so I went with this club chair from Target.

For the coffee table, the Cala hammered coffee table fits perfect.  It's definitely a surprise in the space, breaks up the "square" furniture and it doesn't have sharp corners in case you have kiddos.

To ground this space I chose this chunky wool & natural jute rug from Pottery Barn.

One of my favorite pieces lately is the metal rose sculpture.  I stumbled upon this beauty at Target one day and look at it every time I am in the store! It's huge and it's sleek and just plain awesome!

My few accent pieces are pretty simple.  The lamp and drum shade look light weight and can easily be transformed with paint when you get bored with them as they are.

Ever since I went to a few wineries in California I have admired these olive buckets.  I figured out that Pottery Barn sells them!  Woohoo! (unfortunately I'm probably going to have to start saving my birthday money to afford one...)

Finally, tall vases of flowers are always fun and there are great options at Target for your to create your own!

If you would like the PDF or JPG version of this design board, email me and I will send it your way.  designyourdwellingblog (at) gmail.com.  I seriously love helping to create beautiful spaces so if I can help you with yours please email me and check out my design services page.

Happy Tuesday!

Client Update: Living Room Design

I am really loving my "on the side" job of helping people to create beautiful spaces they love to live in!  I recently help Melanie, from Indiana, design her living room.  Here is the design we came up with.

The goal was to lighten up the space while still creating a cozy, comfortable and put together feel.  They are also planning to add built-ins and a fireplace to their living room.  This will be a fun space to pull together! :)

If you, or someone you know, would like to create a new look and feel for your home, email designyourdwellingblog (at) gmail.com to get started or check out my Design Services page.

Master Bedroom Design + Guest Posting

I know, I know... it's Wednesday so I should be sharing a Wedding Wednesday post!  This week I am taking a Wednesday off from Wedding planning and sharing one of my recent projects with you - this master bedroom design for my dear friend, Kelly, in Wisconsin!

(Out of respect for my clients, I do no share item source list)

It was so fun to work with Kelly, she has great taste and was open to trying some new ideas and bold patterns!  Her goal was to create a retreat for her and her husband that promoted relaxation.  She liked cool coastal colors, a variety of textures, and modern patterns.  This is the look we came up with for her master bedroom retreat! :)

If you would like to update your space or have a design board created specifically for you, check out the design services page, or send me an email designyourdwellingblog (at) gmail.com.

Also - I am guest blogging for a new real estate blog in Northern Iowa called Fischer's Finds!  My first post was published today!  I am giving readers some tips for creating a guest bedroom retreat in preparation for the holidays!  Head over to Fischer's Finds to check it out!

Have a great Wednesday!  Wedding Wednesday's will be back next week!!

Entryway Design Plan

We are getting soooo close to having our garage and entryway done.  I am getting excited to have my house back so I can clean up the construction dust.  With the end in sight, I've come up with an entryway design plan so it will be done once and for all!

Before I show you the design board, here is a look at the new entryway (before it was sheet rocked.)

We decided it would be smart to connect the garage to the house via a breezeway.  We were going to leave our original entryway door in place and just use the breezeway as a walk thru to the house.

Then we decided to open up the house to extend our entryway and add a closet.  (Old houses have no storage.)  You can see that the original entryway ended where the tile is.

We added a little stampcrete patio between the house and the garage and put in a sliding door to let in a lot of natural light.  I love it.  We are still trying to decide if we want to do a laminate flooring or tile.  Any suggestions?

Now that you've seen the structure, here is the design board to show you how the entryway will look when it is all said and done!

What do you think?!

{E-Design Project} Farm Boy Nursery

Hello September! I swear August flew right by...

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  We had guests come to spend the weekend with us so that included a little shopping and some local rodeo action. I also met up with a friend of mine to talk about her baby boy's nursery.  He isn't due to arrive for a couple of months yet but we put some plans into play for the farm boy themed nursery.  Here is the design board I pulled together!

We are for sure going to incorporate the following:

1- Farmer in the Dell prints
2 - "You Are My Sunshine" wall hanging - this will be a DIY project using the same colors on canvas
3 - Alphabet Soup with Navy Blue letters instead of white
4 - Monogram of baby's first name (this is yet to be determined!)
7 - These DIY bookends which will be cows instead of dogs

What do you think?! :)

If you are interested in an E-Design board to spruce up a room in your home or to pull your ideas together - let me know, I would be happy to help!  For more information check out my E-Design page by clicking here.

How To Create A Global Look

A global look is definitely a design trend lately and I am really beginning to love this look plus it is SO simple to create.  Here are a few design boards I created to get you thinking and a few simple tips for how to create a global look in your home.

(Click on the pictures to enlarge them)

1. Use Rich, Bold Colors
A global look uses rich bold colors in the designs.  Try a chair, side table, or pillows to add these colors.  An area rug will add these beautiful colors also!

2. Add Shine
Next, add shine to the look by adding a floor or table lamp, or metal side table.

3. Texture & Pattern
This is the easiest and most fun to add to this look.  Lamp shades, side tables and lamp bases easily add texture to the design while pillows add pattern.  When I think of creating a global look, I think of damask, ikat and small floral prints.  An area rug is an easy way to add these two elements also!

If you have a global look and feel to your home - please send pictures, I would love to see it and share them on my blog.  If you like this look and would like help creating this look in your home, let me know, I would be glad to help you out!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Design Contest

I entered my first design contest with the theme "Entertain in Style" hosted by WayFair, an online home decor site.  The winner gets $250 to spend at WayFair!  I decided to do something a little different and put together an outdoor entertaining space.

(click on the picture to enlarge)

The instructions were to include a minimum of three items from WayFair.  The items I used were the green rug, patio set, flower box, grill, and light blue outdoor pillow.  Some of my other favorite entertaining items came from Target.

I could use your votes!  If you are a registered user of Olioboard, click on this link to vote for my entry "Grillin' and Chillin" by clicking on the heart.  I would appreciate it!

Design Board: Teen Boys Room

I've picked up a new hobby (like I needed something else to do) of creating design boards for interior spaces!  It's been really fun and satisfies my need for creativity so, I wanted to share one of the boards I have been working on for my friend and co-worker.

(click on the picture to enlarge it)

She and I talk a lot about spaces we think are beautiful and some of the elements that we love.  When she told me she was re-decorating her oldest son's room, I challenged myself to put together a room design for her teenager. I grew up with girls so boys are a whole different world to me!  I've never met him so all I knew about him was that he was a teenage boy, didn't like anything floral and that he was a golfer! The good news is that her son really liked it!

I'm sure I will have more design boards to show you in the future - maybe in the form of an announcement next week...  Stay tuned!
